Bodywork done with intention and attunement can help your equine partner feel their best.

About Me

Having a happy, comfortable horse means caring for the whole horse.

As an Equinology trained bodyworker and a horse owner who believes in holistic and species appropriate approaches to all aspects of horse care, I feel I am equipped to collaborate with you and your team to help optimize your horse’s wellbeing. I encourage my clients to seek the expertise of other professionals such as their farrier, chiropractor, trainer, saddle fitter and especially their vet to make sure that all contributing factors are accounted for. Many things impact musculoskeletal health, including hoof health, nutrition, saddlefit, conditioning and training, and injury and disease. I want to help empower you to become more knowledgeable about your horse’s body so you can pursue the best care options and advocate for your horse.

I welcome clients who have never had bodywork work done for their horses but are curious about the benefits, right up to clients who have seen how beneficial bodywork can be as part of a well rounded equine care regime. From retired backyard horses to liberty horses to competition horses, I enjoy working on equines with different careers and life stories and enjoy getting to know each horse as an individual. I feel that bodywork done with intention and attunement to the horse’s mind and body can help improve both general comfort and athletic movement.

I take the time to listen to the history of a horse, gather information about your current routine and goals, as well as a thorough assessment of each horse prior to a session. This includes static observations as well as dynamic observations under saddle, on the lunge and in hand to make sure I am getting the whole picture. My regular sessions are 1.5 hours to make sure nothing gets missed and your horse gets the care and attention they need.

If I seem like I am a good fit for you, your care team and your horse please reach out via my contact page.

What to expect in a session

A Dynamic and Static Assessment

I will assess the way your horse moves. This will be in hand, on the lunge and under saddle depending on facilities available, discipline and what your horse is capable of doing. I will also palpate various parts of your horse's anatomy and check range of motion in their joints to set a baseline.

The Bodywork Session

During my bodywork session I will use the Equinology ®️ method which is a combination of sports massage, soft-tissue mobilization, stretching, range of motion and positioning exercises, muscle activation techniques, and focal point work.

Recommendations & Homework

After the session, I debrief with you about areas of concern, discuss homework for between sessions consisting of massage, stretching or exercises, and recommend consultations with other members of your team such as chiropractor, vet or farrier if needed. Reports are sent out via email.

Why i chose Equinology®️

When I searched for schools to begin my bodywork journey, I wanted a program that was rigorous, rich in the study of anatomy and used proven techniques. I wanted in-person training and enough hours of study and evaluations so that I could be ready to enter the industry with the skills and knowledge I needed to best serve my clients and their horses. I also wanted a certification that requires continuing education credits each year to keep the certification. Equinology®️ was the only school I could find in Canada that met my needs and the needs of the clients I want to serve.

Preparing for a session

I Am Unable to Work on Your Horse If...

  • Your horse has any kind of lameness or health issue not yet assessed by a vet and cleared for bodywork
  • Your horse has a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection
  • Your horse is on a medication and has not been cleared by a vet for bodywork
  • Mares up to 6 weeks after being bred and mares in the last 2 weeks of gestation
  • A horse who has had joint injections in the last 3 days or as recommended by your vet

When I Arrive Your Horse Should...

  • Be reasonably dry
  • Be free of mud
  • Have a sheltered and quiet area for me to conduct the session
  • Be ready to be jogged in hand, lunged or ridden for their dynamic assessment
  • I can catch, groom and lunge your horse to observe movement if you can’t be there for regular sessions ONLY (part of my 1.5 hour session)

Consider Your Horse's Training Schedule

  • Like humans, horses can feel a little sore after bodywork and may need to take it easy for 2-3 days depending on the horse
  • Avoid scheduling bodywork in a minimum 2-3 day period before intense work such as clinics, shows or hard training rides so your horse can perform optimally. Instead do light to moderate work
  • Try to make sure you have time to lightly work your horse after the session on the same day to establish new movement patterns and to help reduce any soreness
